Matt Nable has tackled something special and brought it off in fine, moving style. I loved his film, and if I give primary credit to Nable the writer, rather than the two directors, it is because The Final Winter is essentially a writer's vision, a love song for a lost era and a lost obsession: the world of Sydney rugby league football in the early 1980s.
